R&D film deposition sustainability researcher

Imec and be responsible for supplier rela - via Academic Positions - 23-04-2024 Naar vacature

You will research and develop sustainable semiconductor processes at imec and be responsible for supplier relationships, work definition and reporting.

Background

Driving the semiconductor industry roadmap introduce a high level of complexity and challenging requirements for both materials and processes. As exciting as this semiconductor innovation is, at imec we are committed to not only defining next generation device process but also doing it in the most sustainable way possible. One of the focus areas in imec’s sustainability program is developing processes that reduce the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) used by the semiconductor industry. Emissions from thin film deposition processes like chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD) are large contributors to IC manufacturing’s scope 1 emissions. Strategic areas for improvement are related to chamber cleaning, process efficiency, circularity, and an overall sustainability approach to development.

What you will do

You will be a member of the Thin Films Advance Materials and Processes (TFAMP) group within the Materials, Interfaces, Deposition and Analysis (MIDA) department, responsible for the research, development, and characterization of thin film deposition processes that are used in state-of-the-art equipment focusing on sustainability aspects of these deposition processes. You will work in a dynamic multidisciplinary environment in close cooperation with other researchers, hardware engineers, process experts, material and equipment vendors, industrial assignees and colleagues in Sustainable Semiconductor Technology and Systems (SSTS) program. As a specialist in your field, you will assume responsibility for overseeing the deposition processes details and gas emission understanding associated with specific processes identified by the sustainability program. Engaging directly in imec's SSTS programs, you will take ownership of tasks and play a crucial role in ensuring their exceptional execution. It is also important that you monitor industry trends and innovations and apply scientific knowledge in your deposition developments. By actively contributing to imec’s sustainability activities regarding process development you will be part of the future sustainable semiconductor technology.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium.
