Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Advisor – Make Way Consortium

This is a paid position for 32 hours per week (0.84 FTE)

Since 2021, Liliane Fonds and five fellow consortium partners, with Wemos in the lead, have joined forces. We work together within the Make Way Consortium, a forerunner in operationalising the concept of intersectionality in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Over the next years, we will mobilise a critical mass of civil society as successful intersectional SRHR advocates in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia, the (East) African region and at the global level. Liliane Fonds works through its partners in each context, and coordinates the programme in Rwanda specifically. In our programme, we share innovative practices in intersectional SRHR advocacy, strengthen the advocacy capacity of civil society organisations (CSOs), and implement effective intersectional SRHR lobbying & advocacy at various levels.

As an advisor in the Make Way Consortium, you are responsible for shaping the positioning and active advocacy of Liliane Fonds in the field of disability inclusion at the regional and global level. Also, you give substance to the contribution of Liliane Fonds in the field of SRHR within the Make Way Consortium.

What are you going to do?

• Engage in and mentor youth advocates to meaningfully participate in global (UN) and

regional (AU) high level advocacy spaces. Contribute to advocacy on disability inclusive SRHR in the Regional Global Team in Make Way program;

• Follow up with (the five) country contexts to offer technical support when needed and link the local advocacy efforts to the global and vice versa;
• Generate external visibility for programme achievements through the creation of articles and blogs in collaboration with the communication team;
• Contribute to strong and effective collaboration with and between consortium partners through regular bilateral communication and consortium meetings (mostly online);
• Contributing to timely and high-quality reports from Liliane Fonds to the consortium.

As an SRHR Advisor you will be part of the Inclusive Development team within the International Partnerships & Programmes department. You will receive hierarchical guidance from the team manager, to whom you also report. You will work closely with other colleagues who are committed to this programme.

What do you bring?

• Academic working and thinking level and training in an area relevant to international co-operation;
• Extensive knowledge and international work experience in the field of SRHR and lobbying and advocacy. UN advocacy experience is a plus;
• Good understanding of the concept of intersectionality, knowledge of and experience with disability inclusion in SRHR programmes is an advantage;
• Skilled in supporting and supervising programmes remotely;
• Excellent writing skills and an ability to translate complex information for diverse audiences;
• Good oral and written skills in English; basic knowledge of Dutch is a plus.

Liliane Fund has an active integrity and child safeguarding policy. All employees sign the code of conduct and are obliged to comply with it. Around 50,000 children with disabilities received support from Liliane Fund in 2023. We brought about a change in their lives. A change that for most means the difference between a life on the margins and a life with others and room for development.

80% of all children with disabilities live in the poorest parts of the world. This is no coincidence. Poverty leads to disability, through insufficient healthy food, poor living environment and limited access to healthcare, for example. Conversely, disability leads to more poverty. Partly because parents of children with disabilities incur higher costs for care and medicines. And also because the children themselves rarely have access to education and, later in life, the labour market. They are also hampered by social exclusion and stigma. Thus, the vicious cycle of poverty and disability is closed.

Liliane Fund breaks that vicious circle and improves the quality of life and future prospects of children with disabilities. We make their living, playing and learning environment more accessible and contribute to a society in which they can participate. We always do this together with local partners, who know the situation on the ground and have the network to provide this help in the best possible way.

At our office in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Liliane Fonds and MIVA together employ over 95 employees in service and over 80 volunteers. Since 2018, Liliane Fonds and MIVA have formed a personal union.
