Job description

We are seeking a postdoc researcher for (primarily) the REPO4EU project. The goal of this H2020 project is to build REPO4EU, a comprehensive European/global platform for validated precision drug repurposing open to stakeholders for information, multimedia training, matchmaking and cooperation. Our team of world-leading scientists overcome this by breakthroughs in advanced bioinformatics and artificial intelligence (AI) on real-world big data to redefine diseases in a mechanism-based manner. Patients are still identified by symptom, but stratified according to causal mechanism, the endotype. Trials are small, precise, innovatively designed, prioritising, in coordination with regulators, payers and investors, patient-defined outcomes with high safety and operational excellence. This revolutionary new era of medicine will allow unprecedented efficacy and cost-effectiveness. The promiscuity of small molecules and recently expanded knowledge of protein structures are exploited by cheminformatics and deep learning to repurpose drugs beyond their original target. At any level of the development chain, even for classic projects, REPO4EU provides expertise and matchmaking for freedom-to-operate, intellectual property, reformulation and value-creation, specialised in drug repurposing. Within 5 years, REPO4EU will establish a first-in-class coherent and innovative web-based platform for safe and efficient drug repurposing for all types of high unmet medical need indications to all European researchers and SMEs with a unique Open Science concept, ensuring global medical impact. Finally, within a 2-year interphase, REPO4EU will be converted into a sustainable European infrastructure.

Besides work for the REPO4EU project the postdoc researcher will be involved in work related to HTA within the department of KEMTA, such as health economic evaluations, development focused HTA (including proof of problem analyses), and work for the NICE project. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) provides guidance to the NHS in England on the clinical and cost effectiveness of selected new and established technologies. NICE carries out appraisals of health technologies at the request of the Department of Health. Guidance produced by NICE on health technologies is also applied selectively in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. NICE works with external independent academic organisations, Evidence Review Groups (ERGs) and Evidence Assessment Groups (EAGs). Since 2011, KEMTA is part of an ERG. Currently, seven persons at KEMTA are participating in the NICE project. The work as ERG consists of the assessment of the health economic part of company submissions (single technology appraisals (STA), as well as the development of assessment reports of, mostly diagnostic, interventions (Diagnostic Assessment Reports (DAR)). For more information on the technology appraisal and diagnostic assessment programs, see www. nice.org.uk. The STAs that will be performed for NICE consist of assessing and reporting about model-based cost-utility analyses that have been produced by a third party (the pharmaceutical company) within a strict 8 week time frame. The decision model may be programmed in Excel, R, Data Treeage or Winbugs. The ERG critically assesses the company submission (report and decision model), writes an ERG report, and a representative of the ERG attends the NICE committee meetings in the UK / online. The DARs involves the development of a de novo health economic decision model for a pre-specified problem, as well as writing a report and presenting the work at NICE committee meetings in the UK. You are responsible for participating in the NICE project and performing STAs and DARs in collaboration with health economic colleagues in Maastricht and the colleagues in the UK who are responsible for the clinical part of the STAs and DARs. The work consists of developing and appraising model-based health economic evaluation, and attending NICE committee meetings.
