Background
Den Helder Airport, Netherlands Offshore Aviation Mainport
Den Helder Airport originated in the late 1960s with the rise of the offshore industry on the Dutch continental shelf. In 50 years, the airport has developed into the Netherlands’ only all-round offshore aviation center. The airport is also part of the vital energy infrastructure and is the only airport in the Netherlands from which passengers, thanks to strict personal and baggage screening, can depart for the primary energy areas.
Den Helder Airport is the primary choice for the offshore industry partly due to its perfect location in relation to the wind, oil and gas fields located centrally and in southern parts of the North Sea.
Den Helder Airport is equipped for the future with all the facilities of an international airport. Air traffic control, 1.3 kilometers ILS runway, 12 parking spots, 5 hangars, passenger and baggage control systems, terminal, check-in counters, handling companies, security, immigration, customs, underground fuel bunkers, secure parking lots, etc. The energy transition provides new opportunities for Den Helder Airport that require guts, vision and talent.

DHSS
DHSS has been serving the offshore energy industry since 1997 by providing high-quality ship agency services, 3PL storage and helicopter logistics. From our strategic support bases in Den Helder, IJmuiden and Eemshaven, we have built a smooth running network to serve our customers in every strategic port in the Netherlands. From these support bases, coverage is provided in all ports in the Netherlands.
Traditionally we focused mainly on fossil fuels, but over the last 10 years the focus has increasingly been on renewables. With an eye on the future and the goals of the government, this industry will increasingly need our attention. To best serve our customers, we find it important to keep monitoring processes; we are therefore proud of our ISO certifications and continue to expand and improve them. One example is our CO2 performance ladder, which is flawlessly aligned with the energy transition.
Since 1998, our aviation control tower at Den Helder Airport has focused on helicopter operations for the southern North Sea area to complete our logistical deployment. DHSS provides helicopter flights at every offshore related heliport. Not only in the Netherlands, but also in Germany, UK, France and Belgium. This includes helicopter chartering, in the most efficient and flexible way.
