ON APPLICATION PROCESS
Job description
We seek an independent researcher and scholar in the electrical engineering domain of optoelectronic devices. Devices transducing electronic to optical energy and signals, and vice versa, play a meaningful role in the developed world and will further gain global importance through photovoltaics and photonics. We research and develop the technology of such devices, making use of the Nanolab Twente, one of the best equipped academic clean room laboratories in Europe.An attractive range of facilities at the University of Twente (UT) provide the setting for cutting edge research:
- The Nanolab Twente, for device manufacturing;
- Extensive optical and electrical test facilities;
- A modern ICT infrastructure and the necessary simulation platforms.
The challenge
In the group of Integrated Devices and Systems (IDS) we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Professor with relevant post-doctoral experience to develop a coherent research line in semiconductor-based optoelectronic devices. The research will span the range from photovoltaic cells and photodiodes via light emitting devices to integrated photonic circuits. It takes place in a cooperative, multidisciplinary research line formed by scientific staff of the three science and engineering faculties of the UT.You will publish in international refereed journals, present at conferences, apply for external funding and engage in international and interdisciplinary collaboration and in outreach activities at the UT. You will teach courses and be involved in the supervision of students during their graduation projects. The initial division of tasks is equal between research and teaching.
Your profile
Requirements:
- PhD in electrical engineering, applied or experimental physics, or a related field;
- Demonstrated record of innovation in optoelectronics research, with publications in the main specialist journals and conferences;
- Strong English language oral and written communication skills;
- Experience with device fabrication.
Desired Characteristics:
- Excellent teaching and communication skills, and the willingness to complete the University Teaching Qualification;
- Industrial experience;
- International experience.
Our offer
We offer an excellent and stimulating scientific environment with attractive technological infrastructure and campus facilities. The UT provides a dynamic ecosystem with enthusiastic colleagues in which internationalization is an important part of the strategic agenda.You will be appointed fulltime for 2 years. Near the end, you will be subject to a job performance evaluation. If the result is positive and the circumstances of the organization remain the same, the contract will be converted into a permanent contract. However, we do invite all candidates to apply immediately.
About the department
The IDS group belongs to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science, being part of the Electrical Engineering cluster. The IDS group studies electronic, optoelectronic and electromechanical components. It develops new concepts for nanoscale materials, devices and systems using nano- and microfabrication techniques. Specific examples of our recent work are silicon-based light emitters and their application in circuits, microfluidic handling systems and low-temperature thin-film technologies such as atomic layer deposition.The group contributes to the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology and has a strong track record in knowledge transfer to the semiconductor industry. MESA+ is the largest research institute of the UT. The institute trains graduate students and PhD-students and conducts multidisciplinary research in the fields of nanotechnology, microsystems, materials science and microelectronics.
About the organization
The faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) uses mathematics, electronics and computer technology to contribute to the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). With ICT present in almost every device and product we use nowadays, we embrace our role as contributors to a broad range of societal activities and as pioneers of tomorrow's digital society. As part of a people-first tech university that aims to shape society, individuals and connections, our faculty works together intensively with industrial partners and researchers in the Netherlands and abroad, and conducts extensive research for external commissioning parties and funders. Our research has a high profile both in the Netherlands and internationally. It has been accommodated in three multidisciplinary UT research institutes: Mesa+ Institute, TechMed Centre and Digital Society Institute.As an employer, the EEMCS Faculty offers jobs that matter. We equip you as a staff member to shape new opportunities both for yourself and for our society. With our Faculty, you will be part of a leading tech university that is changing our world for the better. We offer an open, inclusive and entrepreneurial climate, in which we encourage you to make healthy choices, for example, with our flexible, customizable conditions.
