The Procurement and Vendor Manager will be responsible for the completion of the procurement and vendor management aspects of the vendor life-cycle. That is, the P&VM Manager will identify potential vendors, receive proposals or run RFPs, evaluate these proposals and drive the contractual negotiations in collaboration with the business and other internal stakeholders e.g. Data Management, Legal and Finance.

In addition to ensuring that requested services are purchased in due time, the P&VM Manager will also check that funding is available, confidentiality agreements are entered before sensitive information is shared with the (potential) vendor and that all appropriate vendor screening and paperwork are duly completed.

The P&VM Manager will inform internal stakeholders of available services from alternative vendors (which may or may not already be used elsewhere in the organisation) with the aim of reducing the number of vendors we do business with.

In addition to procurement activities the P&VM Manager will be responsible for the continued development and implementation of the category plan for Market Data Services.

Together with two colleagues the P&VM Manager will assume responsibility of operational, tactical and strategic relationship management of all Market Data Suppliers.

Within Aegon, a global Procurement structure is in place, and this role will have global AAM responsibilities and work with Aegon colleagues on procurement related activities/projects/Global RFPs both within AAM and other Aegon entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain AAM category plan for Market Data and participate in virtual Aegon category teams.
  • Ownership of vendor relationships - partners with AAM leadership and business owners. Ensures principles and approaches to management, oversight and governance of vendors is aligned with AAM objectives.
  • Responsible for defining and implementing best practices that maximize efficiencies, quality, and cost savings while building and maintaining positive, long-term, strategic vendor partnerships.
  • Execute vendor management program that includes relationship management, performance management, innovation, evaluation, specification selection, contracting and contract management.
  • Identify, analyse, and recommend vendor solutions that support AAM strategic objectives.
  • Partner with AAM leadership, key stakeholder and Aegon peers to develop effective vendor relationships that ensure high performance and competitive pricing.
  • Manage governance between AAM and vendors; drive a two-way exchange of information related to strategies, priorities, requirements, and disputes.
  • Negotiate contract provisions for new agreements and ongoing amendments; facilitate coordination between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage and interpret vendor contracts, direct contract change negotiations, and monitor fulfilment of contractual obligations.
  • Oversee implementation and on-boarding of selected vendors.
  • Monitor vendor performance and facilitate communications between stakeholders to ensure business expectations are met.
  • Drive vendor behaviour and deliver continuous improvement in vendor performance
  • As a member of the AAM Procurement and Vendor Management team, contribute to the overall development of the Procurement and Vendor Management function. Work with senior managers in the asset management organisation and elsewhere in the Aegon organisation to develop best practices and common solutions.
  • Participation in various (global) procurement projects as required.
  • Occasional travel between AAM EU entities should be expected.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Master/Bachelors degree in business administration, law, operations management, or other directly applicable field. 5+ years experience in procurement & vendor (risk/relationship) management (preferably with market data suppliers), strategic sourcing and contract management.
  • Documented experience with the vendor identification, selection and negotiation process.
  • Thorough knowledge of vendor management best practices and industry trends.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to lead difficult conversations and collaborate, facilitate, and achieve consensus amongst key stakeholders.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Strong customer focus and stakeholder management skills
  • High work ethics, such as being proactive, accountable and responsible
  • Ability to work effectively and cultivate strong relationships across all levels of the organization and with external parties.
  • Ability to work with cultural diverse teams across geographically dispersed locations. Ability to effectively manage ambiguous situations and drive towards clarification. Results-oriented leadership style with a demonstrated ability to influence others and drive change.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail. Ability to succeed under pressure, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a high-paced environment. Self-motivated with a positive attitude.
  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated ability to put strategic plans into operation. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and support activities within a single job function.
