Requirements

Education level: Medium Vocational Level.
Field: Ship management, Office Management, Technical management, Facility Management.
Languages: Dutch, English and German fluent (verbal and in writing). French is a pre.

Role

As a Technical Purchaser within the Technical Department, you will play a crucial role in acquiring technical materials and supplies, overseeing logistics, and managing the administrative aspects. In addition to vendor selection, negotiation, procurement, and transportation, you will be responsible for serving as a liaison between technical managers overseeing designated ships and the onboard staff, including captains, sailors, and engineers.

Your primary responsibility is to ensure the prompt processing of orders received from ships through the ticket system or email. Your role involves maintaining precise control over the supply chain to guarantee accuracy in handling orders.

Position

In your position as Technical Purchaser, you are part of a small team, led by a Purchase Manager, and supervised by the Technical Director. You also work in close collaboration with the Technical Managers and the Warehouse Manager.

Task & responsibilities

  • Primary contact for purchase, orders, and logistic processes in collaboration with the Technical Managers and Technical Director.
  • Supervise and organize general maintenance activities, by means of a ticket system and automated procurement system (Business Central)
  • Organize logistics and transportation to and from the office to the ships.
  • Manage the coordination and oversight of maintenance software in use.
  • Request and review quotations and maintenance contracts from suppliers.
  • Request quotations for machinery, revisions, and materials.
  • Supervise pending/open orders tickets from the ticket system.
  • Oversee and control incoming invoices and current pricing.
  • Support annual training weeks (kick-off for the on-board staff)
  • Proactively place orders as needed.
  • Organize/schedule inspections of equipment, tools, safety equipment, etc.

Competences

  • Education or expertise in mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
  • Familiarity with the (international) maritime industry or shipbuilding.
  • Strong proficiency in English and preferably Dutch and German.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, adaptable, polite, and customer-focused.
  • Ability to work well in a team.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Professional Background

  • Secondary Vocational Education in Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Technical Purchaser, preferably in the maritime industry.
  • Familiarity with the unique technical requirements and regulations associated with river cruising vessels.

Technical Knowledge

  • Understanding of maritime equipment, systems, and technology relevant to river cruisers, including propulsion systems, navigation equipment, safety gear, and HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of international and local maritime regulations, classifications, and certification processes.

Procurement Skills

  • Expertise in negotiating and contract management.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess technical specifications.
  • Experience in sourcing and selecting suppliers/vendors with a focus on quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and multi-cultural staff on board the ships.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and finance departments.

Computer Proficiency

  • Proficient in using procurement and supply chain management software (Business Central, SharePoint, Fresh Desk ticket service)
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, like Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.

Organizational and Time Management

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately.
  • Effective time management abilities to meet deadlines and respond to urgent needs on time.
