We are looking for a PhD student to study ethical issues related to two innovative European projects: GRIPonMASH, to prevent chronic liver illnesses and Artillery, for early detection of non-communicable disease risk in breast cancer patients.

The innovative work in the international projects of GRIPonMASH and Artillery combines the development and use of AI-based decision support tools, population screening and clinical care. In both projects, ethical guidance is warranted to ensure optimal conduct of the project activities as well as high-quality analysis and assessment of the novel ethical issues that emerge during the project.You will write a PhD thesis (based on scientific publications) in which ethical issues that play a key role across GRIPonMASH and Artillery are identified and addressed. In addition, you will work on your professional development, for example by attending courses at the Graduate School of Life Sciences; you will also teach Medical Humanities courses at the Faculty of Medicine.

Our interdisciplinary department Bioethics & Health Humanities is a group consisting of full, associate and assistant professors and PhD students. Together we perform research, teach, and advise on a variety of topics in the fields of bioethics (including ethics of biomedical innovation, research ethics and clinical ethics), history of medicine, narrative medicine and health law.Dit neem je mee
- You have a master's degree in (bio)ethics, philosophy, health sciences, medical sociology, medical anthropology or science and technology studies.
- You are interested in the ethics of biomedical innovation and excited about working at the crossroads of ethics and medicine.
- Experience with (qualitative) empirical research methods is highly valued.
- You have proficient oral and writing skills in English and Dutch.

- A salary between €2.901 and €3.677 gross per month (salary scale OIO), based on full-time employment (36 hours).
