(ID) is one of the nine departments of TU/e and has an internationally leading position because of its core commitment toresearch through design
(RtD) and its strikingly originalconceptual work

ID’s ambition is to be recognized as one of the top departments in the world that conduct exciting research in the intersection of Design, Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, and Social Sciences and Humanities. ID education program
is competence-centered, self-directed and challenged-based. ID focuses on educating students to design through five different perspectives (called Expertise Areas), through core courses and electives:

Job description
As an Assistant / Associate Professor you will contribute to the department through both research and education.Research:
Your research focuses on design processes, generative design methods and tools that combine digital fabrication technologies, artificial intelligence and open innovation. This could be in the domain of soft wearables, e.g., smart textiles and garments, embedding physiological sensing and embodied interaction, or in other domains involving digital fabrication, e.g., 3D printing. You are expected to contribute to this research field by developing novel interaction concepts, developing tools and platforms to support innovative practices in digital craftmanship and to explore innovative areas of fabrication. This research can contribute to designing innovations in various application domains, such as health and well-being, nutrition, automotive, smart wearables. Over and above contributions in different application domains, you will contribute towards novel design methods, with a special focus on sustainability and circularity.
Education:
You will contribute to our educational expertise in Creativity & Aesthetics, and Technology & Realization through courses at bachelor’s and master’s level in topics related to sustainability, that cover both creativity and aesthetics aspects of the designed systems as well as their realization. Furthermore, you will be coaching design projects seeking to link research developments in the area of interest of the candidate to application domains and societal contexts relevant to the department, e.g., sustainability, social inclusion, healthcare, education, smart mobility.
Job requirements
- Motivated researcher, with a PhD in Design, HCI, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or other related disciplines.
- Ability to conduct high quality academic research, reflected by demonstratable products.
- Ability to teach, shown by experience or assistance in teaching. Informed vision on teaching and learning in your own discipline.
- Strong cooperation skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
- Effective communication and leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring of students and staff or leading a project.
- Excellent proficiency (written and verbal) in English.
- Experience in acquiring grants will strengthen your application.
