Research Master Partanen Group

The Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology is a new research hospital concentrating healthcare, research and education with regard to cancer in children in a single location in Utrecht. The institute aims to provide the highest level of care for all children with cancer and has the ambition to cure all children of cancer and significantly reduce unwanted side effects. The center brings together the best possible care and scientific research, creating a unique interdisciplinary institute for pediatric oncology in Europe.

Partanen research group

Children who experience cancer may develop neuropsychological impairments during or after treatment—this may include changes in cognition, behavior, or social-emotional functioning that have significant impacts on daily life. With our research, we aim to improve the early identification and intervention of these impairments. We bring together neuropsychological and biological approaches, with the ultimate aim of preventing further neuropsychological difficulties and improving quality of life in this group of children. Our current research team includes 3 PhD students and a research assistant, research nurse, master student, and coordinator.

Tasks and responsibilities

We are looking for a research master student to work in our growing and multi-disciplinary team. The current research project will be focused on children who have experienced a brain tumor, and how structural changes in the brain may be associated with (neuro)psychological or quality of life outcomes. This study will require analysis of longitudinal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. Internship duration is 6-9 months and supervision will be provided by Dr. Partanen and a PhD student.

Profile

• Master’s student in imaging sciences, neuroscience, cognitive science, or a related field
• Interest in pediatric oncology and clinical research
• Able to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team as well as individually
• Critical thinker and eager to learn
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
