French Lawyer

32-40 hours
Due to our expanding international clientele, we are looking for a French certified Lawyer (Avocat). In your role you have regular client contact, and you know how to create a good relationship in a personable manner. The interpretation you give to your duties allows us to expand our international proposition. This concerns a post in our team of international lawyers at our office in Amsterdam and when required/desired (partly) working from home. Bierens Law is a boutique law office based in the heart of Amsterdam, specialized in international B2B business disputes with a focus on international private law.

Your daily activities

This is an exciting role: you will not only be responsible for your own caseload but also carry shared responsibility for the team caseload both in international debt recovery and private law business disputes. You will be in contact daily with clients, debtors, and other lawyers. You will be supported by your French desk colleagues, with whom you will also be responsible (in part) for training and developing.

On any day, you could be drafting correspondence, settlement agreements, terms and conditions or court pleadings, giving advice on French law in an international case, reviewing contracts or even flying to attend a settlement meeting in another country!

We are very much a team here at Bierens, and we expect all our lawyers to actively contribute to the development of the practice. You are encouraged to make full use of your commercial skills and explore new ideas. As Bierens is focused on cross-border business, we would also expect our new French lawyer to further strengthen the practice by helping to bring in French clients with cases elsewhere in Europe.

An exciting role for you, because:

• You are a fully qualified French lawyer with a current practicing certificate;
• You speak/write French on a native speaker level and speak/write English at a professional level.
• You have experience with contract law and commercial litigation / dispute resolution;
• Your communication skills are excellent, and you do not shy away from speaking to clients on the phone and in meetings;
• Result-oriented and up for a challenge;
• You have a hands-on mentality, ready to be part of an international team;

Desirable

• Experience with EU / international private law, or cross-border work;
• Knowledge of other European languages would be a plus;
• You have a current network of French-based (business) clients or are able to (help) build one;
• You are a starting lawyer with your degree recently obtained or have up to 3 years of experience.
