Damen operates 36 shipyards in 18 countries. The role

Damen is looking for an IT Director who is taken responsibility for all aspects of the core IT systems that supports the needs of our global organization.

Leading on IT strategy, development, planning and implementation of global IT systems, you’ll be facilitating the technology infrastructure and related organizational processes for the realization of our Digital Transformation ambition. You will directly report to the Chief Digital Officer who is part of the extended board. Your key responsibilities are leading the IT Management team and further IT organization, liaising with other departments, entities (national and international), vendors (TCS) and providing solutions that are aligned with the organization’s objectives. Around 120 employees are working for the IT organization within Damen and a large part is outsourced tot TCS.

Key accountabilities

In this role you will:

• Support the development and realization of the Damen IT infrastructure and application landscape, including proposing strategic solutions and recommending new software and systems.
• Direct the design, acquisition, management and implementation of a network-wide supported technology infrastructure.
• Liaise with the business and CDO Office to understand and translate needs into short- and long-term IT.
• Make plans in alignment with the Damen strategy and goals, opportunities, operating requirements and efficiencies.
• Work closely with the CDO Office, IT Management Team, Vendors (TCS) and other stakeholders to support the delivery of the organization’s Digital Transformation ambition.
• Ensure continuous delivery of IT services according to defined SLAs.
• Manage, rationalize and simplify the IT products, systems and service catalogue.
• Approve, prioritize and direct the IT project portfolio to optimize costs, risks and benefits.
• Establish and enforce IT policies, decision making processes, best practices and standards.
• Recruit, develop, coach, motivate and retain highly qualified global IT professionals.
• Promote and oversee strategic relationships between internal IT resources, Damen needs and vendors.
• Build good working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders within and outside the organization.
• Ensure engagement and awareness of technology benefits and risks at senior leadership levels.
• Create and maintain a world class support team and processes.
• Ensure training, learning and support programs are set up and provided for all staff.
• Develop the IT budget (IT Cost optimization à Budget Opex/Capex), monitor performance and identify opportunities to get better value for money. (Value engagement).
• Have a clear vision on how to embed Cyber Security in organizations.
• Modernize IT application platforms (creating platform roadmap).
• Reduce/avoid technology complexity (Enterprise Architecture).
• Improve new ways of working (Agile transformation (devops) (Cloud).

Skills & experience

• Relevant Academic degree.
• Substantial relevant experience, including senior IT management-leadership, gained in an international/global organization.
• A clear vision on the role of IT and Digital Transformation in organizations. You are able to set clear and realistic goals for IT and involve people in achieving these goals.
• You are a people manager and able to get people moving.
• Experience of supporting the design, management and implementation of technology infrastructure.
• Experience with leading and implementing an agile way of working.
• Substantial experience in building effective teams and/or a proven record of good people management.
• Track record of collaborative management and robust coaching to enable growth within a department.
• Strong negotiation, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to make complex technical information accessible to all Damen stakeholders.
• Proven success in building strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Sound understanding of compliance with relevant law and regulations, whilst minimizing bureaucracy.
• Ability to identify and mitigate risk.
• Proven experience in financial and budget management.
• Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
