Head of Data Science

For our Data Science Department, we are looking for an experienced, communicative and proactive
Head of Data Science
. The Head of Data Science is accountable for the creation of new data sciences capabilities (statistics, statistical programming, machine learning, and predictive analytics) for the business by envisioning and executing strategies that will impact the business’s performance by enabling informed decision making and by increasing the range of functional offerings to our clients.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Head of Data Science proactively works with business executives and departmental heads across the business in order to provide statistical designs and/or advanced analytical data modelling solutions. The services provided by Data Science include the design and implementation of innovative and complex statistical designs, analytical models, and machine learning applications which utilize a blend of contemporary and traditional data sources including both structured and unstructured data elements. The Head of Data Science will report to the Chief Operating Officer.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Forming, developing, and maintaining the Data Science team (Data Scientists, Statistician and Data Management);
• Improving commercial decision-making through the incorporation of advanced analytical tools and methods into Julius Clinical processes;
• Developing, implementing and validating custom statistical-based advanced analytics that help answer complex business questions;
• Provide or oversee the statistical and statistical programming contributions towards clinical trials and clinical studies;
• Collaborating with the project team to identify and deploy the appropriate data assets, methodologies, and statistical techniques to answer complex business questions;
• Supporting ongoing proposals, ad-hoc requests and complex data investigations;
• Contributing to the development of innovative methodologies and new offerings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Master’s degree (with minimum of 12 years’ experience) or PhD (with minimum of 10 years’ experience) in Statistics, Mathematics or Economics;
• Strong background in statistical models, advance analytics and programming in the pharmaceutical industry for regulated activities supporting drug or device development;
• Excellent grasp of current and emerging statistical, analysis and programming techniques/technologies;
• Strong understanding of industry standards and regulations regarding statistics (e.g. ICH E6 and E9, CDISC, FDA and EMEA guidances)
• Deep understanding of the secondary data sources commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry (i.e. script level, patient longitudinal, promotional, chart audits, etc.) including the caveats and appropriate uses of each source;
• Strong business knowledge and mindset to provide guidance on how data and analytical methods can be applied to answer business questions;
• Strong communication skills to explain and resolve strategic issues, ability to communicate (verbal and written) technical and non-technical information clearly to a diverse audience.

However we work internationally and we offer the possibility of working home based from anywhere in the EU, as long as you are willing to visit the Dutch office approximately once per month – depending on COVID related travel restrictions of course.
