Job Description

  • To be part of the management team of the school (Middle Management level)
  • To contribute to the development and execution of the (multi-year and annual) school programme for the area of responsibility/department.
  • To be responsible for the quality of educational delivery, to coordinate and lead the area of responsibility in the Secondary School.
  • Co-develop a system of quality assurance and co-supervise its implementation.
  • Collaboration with management: spar with, advise and support the Head of School on developments in the area of responsibility; liaison between teachers/staff and management; identify and analyse needs for modernisation and improvement and policies; collaborate and harmonise with the different sections/departments.
  • To have a leading role in the daily running of the school; oversee and assure continuity and progression within the area of responsibility; stimulate a professional working environment; tracking/assessment; share best practice; coordinate use and ordering of section/department-specific resources; responsible for the implementation of methods and programmes in collaboration with the section/department
  • Line management and HR responsibilities; Provide leadership to employees within assigned areas of focus and coordinate work distribution and daily operations, conduct the interview cycle, coach employees and initiate and support their professional and talent development. Ensure a working climate within the assigned areas of focus that contributes to the achievement of the goals of (the part of) the school.

Requirements

  • University degree and experience in an education setting
  • A willingness to take part in training and development activities, including peer consultation
  • Experience in leading a team
  • Understanding of the European and Dutch education systems is desirable
  • Excellent people skills
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Motivational skills
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Employs effective delegation
  • Good ICT skills for the administrative tasks
  • Knowledge of at least two working languages of the school is desirable

  • A salary based on OOP scale 12 of the CAO VO, based on a 40-hour contract. The specific step in the scale depends on relevant background and work experience

The European School The Hague (ESH) is a unique school. We were established in 2012 to educate the children of employees of European Union institutions. We provide a multilingual and multicultural education to Early Years, Primary and Secondary school children, culminating in the European Baccalaureate. We are an officially Accredited European School, administered and partly financed by the Dutch national education system, and accredited by the Board of Governors of the European Schools since December 2012.

ESH Primary is located at the Houtrustweg 2, and ESH Secondary at the Oostduinlaan 50.
