Postdoctoral Researcher, Explainable AI for Multi-Objective Optimization of Maintenance Schedules

Join our exciting research project on Explainable AI for Predictive Maintenance as Postdoctoral Researcher and work together with our industrial partner to solve challenging real-world optimization problems.

As part of the Natural Computing group of LIACS, you will work together with highly skilled professors and PhD candidates in the fields of evolutionary and Bayesian single- and multi-objective optimization, machine learning and explainable artificial intelligence.

We are seeking a candidate with strong interests in explainable AI and multi-objective optimization.
In the XAIPre project you will work with time-series data from the largest crane vessels in the world. You will work in a team to solve challenging predictive maintenance and scheduling problems.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct original and novel research in the field of multi-objective optimization and explainable AI for predictive maintenance;
  • Publish and present scientific articles at international journals and conferences;
  • Collaborate with PhD candidates and other researchers in the Natural Computing group, and the intended users and stakeholders;
  • Assist with project management activities in the XAIPre project;
  • Assist in relevant teaching activities;

Selection Criteria

  • A PhD degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or equivalent program.
  • Good programming skills in e.g. Python;
  • Solid experience with Explainable Machine Learning and/or multi-objective optimization;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English;.
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, e.g., industry professionals, academic researchers.

Terms and conditions

We offer a full-time, 2-year PostDoc position, with a salary range from € 3.226, - to € 5.090, - gross per month (pay scale 10 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).

Leiden University offers an attractive benefits package with additional holiday (8%) and end-of-year bonuses (8.3%), training and career development and sabbatical leave.
