75 year old family business, working in the subcontracting, construction and maintenance of tank storage facilities and related equipment and systems such as loading arms, heat exchangers, scaffolding construction. Projects that can take place globally.

The company has 280 employees on the payroll, continuously 100 to 500 temporarily hired staff and a turnover of >€100 mio. It is headquartered at the port of Rotterdam and has branch offices in Amsterdam, Germany, Belgium and Saudi Arabia.

The organization has 12 Business Units. Customers include Exxon, Shell, Evos, Westlake, Vopak, LyondellBasell, Shinetsu.
The organization prides itself on having an entrepreneurial culture internally. As a result, the level of organization is limited. The company is ISO9100 certified.

Procurement

The purchasing department currently consists of a head of purchasing and a buyer. The spend is approx. €70 mio.
Procurement includes piping, mechanical, rotating, E&I, steel and subcontracting.
Through the activities of the purchasing manager, the number of suppliers has already been reduced from 8,000 to 2,000; in addition, he is rewriting procurement processes.

The purchasing department also handles purchasing for a Nigerian company operating in the same business.
The ERP system Inventive is used. Operational procurement is basically within the project organizations unless procurement can add value.

Function

In this position, you will be involved in the procurement of all the products and services listed, with a focus on piping and mechanical.
You will be involved in projects from the tender/sales phase through delivery. In the tender/sales phase, estimation of a project will approach you with a request to provide certain data, for which you will go into the market with requests for quotations.

Once a project is awarded, you and the project team determine whether to order directly based on the quotes already requested or to re-solicit quotes. In the construction/implementation and delivery phases, you will provide supplier management. Supplier performance is monitored through Inventive, which allows you to discuss their performance with them. In case of delivery problems, you are the escalation channel.

You make sure you know the supply market, make sure you outsource work to subcontractors, and where you do business with good parties it is important to come to framework agreements.

It is also important to look for synergy within the organization so that you have a stronger position in discussions with suppliers.
More and more purchases are being made from international suppliers (especially in Asia), which means that in addition to your purchasing duties, you also have to handle transportation, import duties, customs issues and insurance.

International travel will be sporadic in this role.

Your profile

• HBO work/thinking level
• Experienced tactical buyer, preferably also in the field of piping and mechanical
• Preferably experience in a project environment
• Good at stakeholder management, communication strong
• Enterprising, proactive
• NL and English speaking

Offer

• Salary up to €75,000 per year, depending on knowledge and experience
• Discretionary profit sharing, a personal performance bonus of up to €1,050, an anti-absence incentive up to €1,000 and a referral scheme of €2,500 for bringing in new colleagues
• 25 vacation days, up to 13 days can be purchased in addition
• Travel allowance of €0.23/km up to 50 km
