About the position

A fixed-term 100% position is available at the University of Agder, Faculty of Engineering and Science as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Structural Engineering, affiliated to the Department of Engineering Sciences, for a period of 2 years. The position is located at Campus Grimstad. The starting date is negotiable with the Faculty.

A variety of research is conducted within all the groups; Mechatronics, Renewable Energy, Civil Engineering and Industrial Economy, and we also welcome interdisciplinary projects within the department or with other research groups. This position will be associated with the Civil Engineering section. We have a broad international cooperation, and close collaboration with industrial partners and public services in the region. This is a benefit both for teaching and research. The partners contribute with assignments, competence and resources.

Project Background

As one of the successfully funded projects of the 1st joint transnational call under the
, the FAMOS project aims to develop innovative modular floating island concepts for offshore sites. To achieve this, technological assessments of innovative concepts under various environmental conditions, systems integration of marine renewable energy devices, and social acceptance of the proposed island solutions must be harmonised.

Responsibilities

The Post-doctoral Research Fellow will be expected to perform design and analysis of innovative concepts of floating islands. Dynamic response analysis (hydrodynamic and aerodynamic) and structural integrity analysis are expected to be carried out numerically. The Research Fellow should work collaboratively with project partners, e.g, from Italy, Cyprus, and Poland to contribute to the project tasks. Short-term scientific missions in Italy and joint supervision are expected in numerical and experimental work. The research work will be aimed at the preparation, drafting and submission of research reports, submission of high-quality publications, and dissemination activities at the European level.

Required qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Marine Technology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a relevant subject area. Potential applicants must have had their theses approved by the time of the application deadline.
  • Expertise in one of the following fields: mechanics and analysis of structures; design of offshore wind turbines; multi-physics simulations of marine and offshore structures; experimental analysis of marine structures.

Desired qualifications

  • Good experience with publications;
  • It is hoped that applicants have defended their PhD theses during the last five years.
Emphasis will be placed upon the project description and the relevance it has with regard to the subject in question and the research environment at the Faculty.

The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1352 Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, NOK 595 000-645 000 gross salary per year. Higher salary grades may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
