Function description

As Junior Breeder Lettuce you will contribute to the development of new varieties. You assist in the observation, evaluation and selection in breeding and screening trials. You record, process and analyse breeding and screening data. With the collected information, you are able to create new varieties for the designated markets.

You are part of the Lettuce Breeding team consisting of experienced breeders, biotech breeders, assistant breeders and technicians. You will work closely together with colleagues of other departments, ranging from commercial specialists to researchers.

Function Requirements

When you see a group of plants your analytical skills are triggered making you notice every detail and assessing their relevance. You are eager to learn and to develop yourself to become an all-round breeder.

Modern methods of plant breeding are your main professional interest. You can work independently, but you can also cooperate with a team. Furthermore, you are an enthusiastic entrepreneur who sees new possibilities and comes with creative ideas.

Travelling abroad several times per year will be part of your job.

In short, you:

• have a MSc degree in Plant Science;
• have excellent analytical skills;
• are aware of the (team) results to be achieved and contribute to the achievement;
• have an international mindset;
• are energised by working together in teams across functions;
• have good communication skills in English language (Dutch language skills are a plus);
• have a passion for breeding.
