Junior Advisor Architecture

Are you eager to put into practice everything you’ve learned? Do you want to apply your acquired architectural knowledge to make an impact? Are you interested in contributing to the spatial quality of police real estate? Do terms like environmental value, utility value, experiential value, and future value resonate with you? Then the Junior Advisor Architecture position is a great opportunity for you!

What will you be doing?

You will help ensure that your police colleagues across the country are well-housed so they can carry out their work effectively, maintaining continuity and quality in police real estate. You will contribute to the development and execution of the police’s real estate portfolio. As an advisor to the Police Architectural Studio, you will have a direct connection with architectural and engineering firms undertaking projects for the police: assisting in preparing tenders, evaluating their designs, and providing advice to ensure alignment with police guidelines. You will have significant responsibility and will be able to contribute, from the perspective of the police as a major public client, to discussions on how architecture relates to safety on the streets, in neighborhoods, cities, and the country as a whole.

Working alongside other advisors in the Police Architectural Studio, you won’t be designing yourself but rather providing clear feedback on spatial plans at all stages of preparation, on all scales and levels of abstraction. You’ll analyze plans, identifying their strengths and potential weaknesses, and document this feedback in writing to ensure transparency. You’ll support the housing organization of the National Police, keeping developers, asset and project managers, and real estate managers focused on the qualitative aspects of area and project development. You’ll develop your knowledge of the spatial design world in the Netherlands: profiles, characteristics, trends, methodologies, as well as the suitability of design and advisory firms for the increasing flow of design projects for the Police. You’ll have an understanding of the key factors influencing the quality of plans and outcomes, leveraging this knowledge in project preparation, development, and realization. You’ll conduct site visits to monitor project progress. On top of that you’ll build and maintain a relevant network for your work. You’ll have a dedicated mentor to guide you through our challenging organization.

Where will you be working?

As a Junior Advisor Architecture, you’ll be part of the Police Architectural Studio, which currently consists of an urban planner, two architects, an interior architect, a communications advisor, and a coordinator. Additionally, the studio is supported by a Police Architect who is succeeded every three years. We are a tight-knit group of experts passionate about architecture. We strive for a recognizable police image and promote biodiversity, adaptive, and circular construction within the police force. The Studio is your home base in a dynamic work environment as the police organization is continuously evolving. The Studio is part of the Policy and Implementation branch of the Housing sector, where we innovate and draft new policies for the Housing sector and indirectly for the police. We all have a blue heart!

Who are you?

You’re eager to develop professionally, curious, socially engaged, and keen to gain new work experiences. You’re flexible, able to switch between different tasks, work environments, and project teams, relying on your common sense and occasionally your own insights. You’re adept at making connections and excel at teamwork. Your approach to work with others is stimulating, driven by curiosity, and always in the organization’s interest. You have an academic background in Architecture and an affinity for urban design, landscape architecture, and interior architecture. You’re motivated to contribute to this organization. If you’ve just graduated and lack specific professional experience in the field, that’s not a problem for us; we’ll teach you the tricks of the trade!

What we offer

The position is based in Rotterdam, but we primarily work in a hybrid manner. We believe it’s important that you work where the work is and where you can perform best. This could be at your base, at another (police) location, at home, or elsewhere, always with a focus on collaboration and connection with your colleagues. We’ll make agreements about this within the team. We continue to explore ways to work smarter together, utilizing the opportunities of digital work. This ensures a more pleasant working environment for you, contributing to your productivity. There’s one full-time position available. It’s a 36-hour workweek. We offer extensive development opportunities; if you’re considering obtaining your BEP certification, we’re happy to assist you in achieving this. The temporary appointment starts with a one-year probationary period. If your performance is satisfactory, the appointment will be converted to a permanent one after a year. As good people are crucial to the police, we invest in your future.
