Overzicht

Due to the departure of our current choir conductor, Krista Audere, the Wageningen Student Choir and Orchestra Association (WSKOV) is looking for a new conductor from August 2022 onwards.

About the WSKOV

The WSKOV consists of both a choir and a symphony orchestra. Together, we organize concerts twice a year, where we perform a cappella pieces, orchestra pieces and a joint piece.

The WSKOV choir consists of about 50 members with varying choral experience. We are an internationally oriented student choir, open to all, but mainly focused on students and PhD candidates in Wageningen and its surroundings. The repertoire consists of (light) classical music. We sing pieces with four to eight-part divisi (soprano, alto, tenor, bass).

Twice a year, we rehearse a new repertoire that will be performed at two concerts at the end of the season. In the Christmas season (September-December) we mostly sing religious music. In the spring season (January-June) we sing a more secular repertoire, among others consisting of world music. We mostly sing a cappella pieces in addition to a joint piece with the orchestra.

Currently, rehearsals take place on Thursdays at the Orion building of the Wageningen University from 19.30 to 22.00. The rehearsal day is negotiable but the rehearsal time must remain the same. On top of the weekly rehearsals we organize a rehearsal weekend each season, where rehearsing and having fun go hand in hand. Also, once every two years we plan an (international) tour during the summer.

The language used during rehearsals is English.

Profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic conductor who wants to guide the choir in rehearsing and performing our repertoire. They must be willing to lead a choir with a changing composition, of which a selected group stays for a longer time. In addition, the conductor must also be willing to lead and perform the joint pieces for orchestra and choir, alternating with our orchestra conductor (Frank Adams).

For this, we are looking for a choir conductor with the following qualities:

• Has affinity with the target group of the choir (mostly students between the ages of 18 and 25).
• Has affinity with beginner vocalists. The choir members have varying choral experience, some of them not coming from a musical background.
• Vocal training is an important part of the rehearsals.
• Ambition of the singers is mostly to have fun with singing.
• Various working methods are applied during rehearsals to reach a level at which the repertoire can be performed during the concerts.
• Is aware of the international character of the choir. Meaning that the rehearsals are conducted in English and the repertoire is diverse.
• Has professional qualifications in choir conducting or will obtain these soon.
• Is preferably able to play the piano during rehearsals. There is no pianist available.
• Is able to collaborate with the music committee in compiling a repertoire based on the above mentioned characteristics.
• Is available from August 2022 onwards.
