Research Technician in vivo/molecular biology (1.0 fte)

The division of Systems Pharmacology and Pharmacy of the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) is looking for a research technician to support drug research involving animal models, with an interest to also be involved in supporting development of molecular biological assays, and/or cell- and tissue models.

The research within our division encompasses a combination of experimental and computational modeling approaches, aiming to develop novel strategies towards translational drug development approaches and personalized treatment strategies. Specifically, current in vivo research techniques used in the division include the use of brain microdialysis and pharmacological/biomarker studies, with an interest to expand towards other disease areas studied in our division.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designing and conducting animal experiments in collaboration with researchers in our division;
  • Support establishing advanced cell culture models (e.g. human primary cells, organ-on-chip, bio-printed tissues), and, tissue slice cultures.
  • Contribute to laboratory management tasks;
  • Support the training of researchers and students;
  • Support the conduct and development of molecular biological assays
  • Development and maintenance of protocols/standard operation procedures (SOPs).

Your profile

  • Completed HLO training;
  • Experience in working with rodent animal models (mice, rat, including experience in handling, injection techniques and other common procedures) and related techniques (e.g. histology, tissue slices);
  • Holding a license for working with laboratory animals (art. 6/9/13f2)
  • Experience with advanced cell culture models, molecular biology techniques, microscopy/imaging, flow cytometry is a plus.
  • Experience with animal infection models and/or pharmacologically-oriented animal experiments are a plus;
  • You are flexible, pro-active, eager to learn and have strong organization skills;
  • You are a team player;
  • You have good communication skills, both in English and in Dutch;

What we offer

We offer a one year contract which may afterwards lead to a permanent contract. You will be appointed in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The salary ranges from € 2471 to € 3336 (scale 7), € 2818 to € 3764 (scale 8), or € 3098 to € 4257 (scale 9) gross per month for a full time appointment, and is dependent on your working experience.
