Job description | Functional Design Marine Systems Engineer

As Functional Design Marine Systems Engineer, you will work within the Marine & Propulsion department on a state-of-the-art frigate project. This Dutch Naval Shipbuilding company is world-leading in the development of the most advanced military vessels. The organization is expanding fast to deliver on its ongoing projects as well as preparing for future growing demand. To acquire additional expertise, they also hire for purely project-based positions, like this role of Functional Design Marine Systems Engineer.

As the title says, you are co-responsible for specifying the Functional Design of the Marine Systems of this frigates programme. Translating the requirements of the client to equipment specifications for suppliers and subcontractors. Communicating with all involved parties to come to agreed technical solutions and checking the deliverables of internal and external parties, in the engineering phases as well physically. You are responsible for guarding the Functional Design integrity through the full design engineering and building cycle. Therefore, your tasks include:

• Maintaining a good working relationship with suppliers, subcontractors and the client
• Evaluating quotations provided by suppliers in cooperation with the purchasing department
• Comparing quotations from different suppliers and providing a solution to achieve the best result
• Integrating the supplier input into the engineering design in cooperation with other departments
• Creating and checking purchasing lists, technical specification documentation, supplier information and documentation
• Performing technical calculations to validate the design
• Ensuring compliance with the requirements of class societies and the client
• Participating in design checks, evaluating technical performance
• Providing technical support during commissioning activities

Job requirements | Functional Design Marine Systems Engineer

• BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant discipline
• +3 years of experience in the Shipbuilding or Offshore industries
• Experience with class and flag regulations
• Experience with budgeting and purchasing lists
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
• Excellent English communication skills, German is a plus
• EU-citizenship required
