Your activities
The Dual PhD Center is looking for an enthusiastic researcher who is willing to assist in (social) scientific research. You will work with a principal investigator (Dr. Mark Dechesne) to assist in his research program. You will be involved in the preparation, implementation, analysis and reporting of experimental research and field research. Given the nature of the research tasks, it is important that you are passionate about experimental social science research and that you have a strong interest in the social sciences, and that you are willing to collaborate as a team member.As part of your appointment, you will provide assistance in:
Drafting research proposals, and applications related to data management and ethical accountability of research;
Collecting relevant literature and materials for research;
Programming studies that will mainly be conducted online;
Analyzing research data;
Drafting research reports and articles.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a candidate with an affinity with social science research, in particular quantitative, experimental research. We are preferably looking for someone with experience in preparing and conducting experiments with Prolific. Good communication skills in English and Dutch, written and oral, are desirable, as is a willingness to learn and work together.The organization
The Dual PhD Center is part of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs, one of the 7 faculties of Leiden University. The Center is located in The Hague. The Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs (FGGA) engages with societal challenges. FGGA provides high-quality interdisciplinary education and research on social and governance issues such as terrorism, the organization of public administration, climate change and economic crises. Because social issues are not bound by the boundaries of a single scientific discipline, these themes are addressed from various public administration, political science, psychological, economic, legal and sociological perspectives.The Dual PhD Center (DPC) is aimed at promoting scientific PhD research for professionals. Professionals are trained and prepared for conducting doctoral research through education and personal supervision. You will mainly work together with Dr Mark Dechesne, one of the supervisors at the DPC, and you will participate in his research program. You are welcome to participate in the joint activities at the DPC.
What do we offer?
We offer a challenging position. You will learn a lot about research practice, and you will collaborate with nationally and internationally recognized researchers in the social sciences. The appointment will be in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement of Dutch Universities, initially for a period of 8 months. An extension of one year is possible. The salary, depending on education and work experience, is a minimum of € 2,818 and a maximum of € 3,754 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 8).In addition, Leiden University offers secondary employment conditions. For example, there is an end-of-year bonus (8.3%), holiday allowance (8%), excellent training facilities, paid parental leave and the option to choose tailor-made employment conditions via a selection model.
