Appointment of Country Director (D2), Democratic Republic of the Congo
The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.DRC is a critical operation to respond to the needs of 15.6 million people who are food insecure and in need of humanitarian assistance. It is a large-scale complex country operation powered by over 650 staff across 19 field offices. The country manages a combined portfolio of one of WFP’s largest emergency operations targeting internally displaced populations, refugees, health-related emergencies coupled with resilience and peace-building interventions.
The Country Director for DRC will leverage WFP’s significant operational capacities in food security and nutrition, supply chain and common services provision, and strong partnerships with other UN agencies and implementing partners towards WFP’s goal of ‘Saving Lives, Changing Lives’. They will provide effective leadership to ensure the continued development of a cohesive and high performing Country team, identify and build productive relationships at a national, regional and global level, and actively work with partner agencies to meet food assistance needs within the country, to prepare for, and to respond to hunger related emergencies.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- A minimum of 15 years of professionally responsible experience, gained in managing large-scale, diverse and complex programmes in emergency and developmental contexts;
- Significant people leadership and management experience, uniting large and diverse multi-discipline teams;
- External stakeholder engagement experience with, but not limited to, donors, government officials, media outlets;
- Demonstrated ability to deliver change and results in operationally sensitive contexts.
- Fluency in French and English is essential.
