Job description

Digitization and robotization are rapidly and radically changing the nature of work in modern organizations. In many sectors, jobs will partly be taken over by digital technologies and an even greater part of human work will involve collaborating with (advanced) technology. Consequently, jobs and (collaborative) work processes need to be redesigned. This raises all sorts of questions. How should tasks be shared or divided between employees and “intelligent agents”? How do we ensure that humans and robots can collaborate effectively? And how do we safeguard meaningful work and worker well-being in a digitized work context? If you are interested to help answer these questions in a multidisciplinary research environment, then we are looking for you.

Your research will focus on the implementation and use of robots and AI in organizational contexts, and the implications for job design (in terms of meaningful work), work processes (e.g., collaboration, decision making) and work outcomes

(e.g., productivity, learning, well-being). A particular emphasis will lie on
the moral and social aspects of digitization and robotization of work.
You will work in close collaboration with researchers in ethics of technology and other relevant disciplines, as well as industrial partners in the Brainport region, e.g., in the Eindhoven Engine.

From the onset, you will collaborate with and supervise a PhD student whose work will be dedicated to the same topic. You will contribute to developing, coordinating, and teaching courses on the interplay between organizations, employees, and technology at the bachelor and master level, as well as supervise bachelor and master thesis students. In addition, you are expected to acquire external research funding (from, e.g., industry, NWO, EU), be active and visible in local and international academic networks, and contribute to the management of the group and the department.

Job setting

You will be embedded in the Human Performance Management (HPM) group, where you will have opportunity to connect with colleagues doing research in the fields of applied psychology, organizational behavior, occupational health, and management. The HPM group is part of the School of Industrial Engineering in the department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences of Eindhoven University of Technology. HPM focuses its research and education on the optimization employee functioning and performance in organizations. By examining the ‘people factor’ in operational and innovation processes, HPM aims to ensure that employees can bring organizational strategies to fruition in the most rewarding and efficient way possible. Besides teaching course at the undergraduate, graduate and PhD levels, we work closely with a wide range of industrial and institutional partners to study and support people’s functioning in (high-tech) organizational contexts.
