The Maritime Institute, embedded within the Department of European, Public and International Law of the Faculty of Law and Criminology of Ghent University, is looking for a full-time PhD student who will work on the topic “Gentle wave or tsunami? The impact of unmanned and autonomous shipping on the law of the sea” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Klaas Willaert.Your tasks:
- You will conduct academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation on the above-mentioned topic.
- You will publish and present research results on a national and international level.
- As part of a motivated team, you will contribute to the daily functioning, research activities and educational tasks of the research group and the department.
Job profile
What are we looking for?- You hold a Master’s degree in Law (or will obtain that degree in September 2024 at the latest).
- You are familiar with international law and the law of the sea.
- You have excellent research skills and you are motivated to conduct academic research within the law of the sea.
- You are prepared to support the daily functioning, research activities and educational tasks of the research group and the department.
- You are able to work independently within a team.
- You are flexible, perseverant and dedicated.
- Excellent English language proficiency is required. Knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
