Job description
The Department of Plastic Surgery is a department with research spearheads in oncological reconstructions, craniofacial anomalies and hand and wrist disorders. For the various spearheads, the department focuses on the interfaces between innovative surgical techniques, collection and use of clinical data from different sources. Many of the studies are at the interface of technology and surgery with an increasing focus on '(big) data'.To strengthen our research, especially within the spearhead oncological reconstructions, we are looking for a PhD researcher who is able to develop innovative scientific projects in collaboration with physician-researchers. Activities will include writing grant applications, co-directing research projects and supervising students and PhD students. For example, research in the field of the impact of reconstructive surgery in breast cancer, skin cancer and head and neck cancer patients and in the field of technological innovations in reconstructive surgery.
As a postdoctoral researcher you play an important role in, among other things, shaping the methodological and scientific quality of the research, but also in project administration, financial administration and regulations surrounding medical scientific research. In doing so, you both support ongoing projects and develop new projects and apply for grants.
Work environment
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work in a multidisciplinary team consisting of PhD-plastic surgeons and researchers and be part of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery & Hand Surgery. You will work in close collaboration with the plastic surgeons and the other (physician) researchers within the department. Due to the nature of plastic surgery, research often takes place in collaboration with other departments such as Dermatology, Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Radiology and ENT. Within this, there is a collaboration with other disciplines such as researchers from the technical university Delft or specialists in image processing or data analysis.Qualifications and skills
We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive, independent and highly motivated researcher to help shape our research.- You are a PhD researcher in a relevant related field.
- You have expertise with clinical patient-related research including experience with data analysis.
- You have affinity with the efficient and goal-oriented organization of scientific research, with an eye for relevant laws and regulations.
- You are someone who likes to work together, takes initiative, wants to develop yourself further and is able to supervise students and PhD students in research.
- You have excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, both verbally and in writing.

Terms of employment
We offer a temporary position for 1 year with the possibility of extension. The gross monthly salary, depending on education and experience, amounts to a maximum of € 5.383,- (scale 11) for a full 36 hours working week. In addition, we offer a year-end bonus of 8.3%, an individual travel budget and study opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for University Medical Centers (UMC).Information and application
