About our plant

In Drachten, we design, develop, and manufacture innovative and high-tech lab automation solutions for microbiology laboratories. By automating laboratories, large quantities of samples are processed quickly and reliably, allowing patients to receive treatment faster. BD Kiestra has about 250 hard-working, committed associates who have a strong bond with the organization.

About the role

We are seeking our new Plant Manager as a replacement due to a happy retirement. The role reports to the Sr. Director of Instrument Operations for BD Diagnostics and leads an organization of around 100 people, with a flexible workforce of around 20-40. The Plan Manager is responsible for the overall operations within the Drachten facility including leading all operations and engineering activities for our highly sophisticated, customized high-tech product portfolio.

As part of the leadership team, you collaborate with senior business leaders on a regular basis, align the strategic vision of the manufacturing operations and strategies on-site and ensure its successful deployment, especially through Continuous Improvement, building capabilities, and adoption of appropriate systems and processes.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Act as the Operations representative on the Platform Leadership Team (led by the Worldwide Lab Automation Platform Leader).
  • Run the plant operations of a high-growth business, ensuring service level delivery, safety, quality, and cost parameters are met and continuously improved.
  • Develop an environment that influences and encourages associates to be empowered, committed, dedicated and to grow.
  • Establish and drive high-reaching Continuous Improvement initiatives throughout the site, optimally applying tools such as Six Sigma and Lean to deliver sustainable outcomes and drive manufacturing simplification and materials/product flow improvements.
  • Work directly with product development and R&D to ensure product innovation is translated into reliable and cost-effective scale-up of production.

About you

We are looking for a Plant Manager with a previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a regulated industry (such as automotive) on complex or highly technology-driven products. You have a keen eye for business with an ability to translate business objectives into tactical activities for the plant, as well as a proven record in influencing across matrix organizations. In addition, you have a strong ability to simplify complexity and drive continuous improvement.

  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
