Project Officer Iraq

(32 hours per week)
The Project Officer is based at PAX headquarters in Utrecht, works in the Iraq program team – a diverse team of around 6 colleagues based in Utrecht and in the field office in Erbil. The team works on different projects with a thematic focus on transformative justice and Gender, Peace & Security.

What will you do?

The project officer contributes to the implementation of the Iraq programme and reports to the Iraq Country Lead. Tasks include supporting the team in administrative (service contracts, assist with internal processes, and finance processes (such as financial reports partners, grand activities, annual and quarterly reports, etc), logistical support. Next to this the project officer will contribute to project coordination, monitoring and reporting, liaising with other teams, partners and relevant internal and external stakeholders. As well as contributing to context analysis, staying informed about relevant social, political and other developments and communication about the work and to the development of the programme.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a colleague that is motivated to contribute to our peacebuilding programme in Iraq, is eager to learn; is solution oriented; culturally sensitive; and can deal with working in/on conflict areas. This position requires a basic understanding of the working field of PAX, and some (working) experience in/on the Middle East. The position requires a working proficiency in English and Arabic, speaking, reading and writing.

We require:
  • BA or MA or knowledge of/experience in the Middle East of relevant fields such as international relations, political science, conflict and peace, human rights, transitional justice
and/or prior (internship) experience in a local or international non-profit organisation.
  • Basic knowledge of and/or experience with project management and administrative and financial processes.
  • Good verbal and textual communication and analytical skills.
  • Hands-on, problem-solving mentality and able to deal with bureaucratic environments.
  • Ability to work responsibly under pressure; to work individually as well as in a team.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
  • Working proficiency of Arabic and English including excellent writing skills is a must, Dutch is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications such as Teams, Microsoft Office, etc;
  • Authorised to travel to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
  • Affinity with PAX’s mission and values.
  • Eligibility to work in the EU.

  • Salary scale 8 according to the PKN employment conditions (depending on experience

  • 8% holiday-allowance and 8,3% end of year bonus.
  • Full reimbursement of commuting expenses, 2
